As is already known, Agsu Archaeological Expedition of NASA Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography conduct explorations with initiative and support of MIRAS Social Organization in Support of Studying of Cultural Heritage since March, 2010 in medieval Agsu town.

As is already known, Agsu Archaeological Expedition of NASA Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography conduct explorations with initiative and support of MIRAS Social Organization in Support of Studying of Cultural Heritage since March, 2010 in medieval Agsu town. The expedition, led by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Gafar Jabiyev studied 15 000 sq/ms site up nowadays and displayed numerous artifacts on last medieval history of Azerbaijan.
The briefing held in NASA National Museum of History of Azerbaijan on 11 July was dedicated to golden treasure uncovered by Agsu Archaeological Expedition.
Director of Museum of History of Azerbaijan, Acad. Naile Velikhanly stated tens of archaeological expeditions are held in the country as a result of attention towards the domains of history, culture and archeology in the republican level lately. The expedition conducted in last medieval Agsu town is one of them. N. Velikhanly noted golden treasure found in that place on 22 June, this year plays exceptional role in the study of certain stage of Azerbaijani history. She underscored the golden coins were handed to Gold Fund of the Museum in conformity with the law.
Director of NASA Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, Maisa Rahimova said that the treasure uncovered from Agsu town proves Azerbaijan’s being the most ancient settlement and civilization center. According to her, Agsu explorations are ongoing and there is a hope that new unique finds, playing important role in study of our history will be revealed as well.
The chief of the Expedition, Doctor of Historical Sciences Gafar Jabiyev expressed gratitude for Agsu explorations to the head of our country, NASA, the leadership of NASA National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and NASA Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography and Agsu regional Executive Power and the MIRAS Social Organization in Support of Studying of Cultural Heritage, financing the project. G. Jabiyev brought other news to the mass media representatives. According to him, one more golden item was revealed in last medieval Agsu town on 9 July of this year. Thus, one golden decor item was found upon excavating the site. That item will be handed to National Museum of History of Azerbaijan as well.
The expedition chief said there are more precious things than gold amongst the finds till now. He noted a good archaeologist is not who excavates and finds more, but writes more on what he excavates. He informed the mass media on print preparation of the 4th book on finds of Agsu archaeological expedition.
Scientist of numismatics Ali Rajably said this treasure is the first revealed by archaeologists. He said people find treasure, but the museum does not receive all of them.
The director of the museum, Acad. Naile Velikhanly called on the media representatives to enlighten readers and recommended to inform people on historical and scientific importance of the treasures more than financial value. She noted the person found the treasure means to become known in the history.
Naile Velikhanly said in the end, the chief and members of Agsu archaeological expedition were granted message of gratitude due to Order of NASA Presidium and were rewarded money.
