On 2-5th October, 2013 DHA 32- Dyes in History and Archaeology was held in historical La Rochelle City of France. Basic purpose of the conference held traditionally is to present to wide scientific world new explorations held in the topics of colorants: dyes and organic pigments, natural and synthetic dyes, their history, chemistry, application and characterization. Chemists, conservators, historians, archaeologists and craftsmen from France, Great Britain, China, Japan, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Turkey, Greece, Poland, Nigeria, US, Romania, Israel and others participated at the conference. Azerbaijan was represented at international conference by chairman of MIRAS Organization, PhD Fariz Khalilli, art-restorer Vugar Guliyev, professional photographer Mammad Rahimov and translator-researcher Shola Bayramova. They had presented posters and oral presentations on ‘natural dyes in new archaeological and ethnographic researches in Azerbaijan and ‘dye in carpet-making art of Azerbaijan’. It was stated that a dye-house with large dye jugs inside was uncovered within archaeological explorations launched in Medieval Agsu Town since 2010 March. Dye layer on inner walls of the jugs and dyes mixed with the ground were analyzed by Prof. Dr. Recep Karadağ in Marmara University of Turkey. There was identified that madder (Rubia Tinctorium L.) was preserved inside the jugs. Generally, Azerbaijan's export of madder was reflected in official documents in 18th century. Half of the tax got from Medieval Agsu Town's population was obtained from natural dye. It was particularly noted in the paper that, Basgal Village of Ismayilly region historically occupied with dyeing. Dyeing house in Basgal was restored as a result of the development of natural dyeing started with public initiative and project of re-deliver to the community. Small Silk Museum was created there. Basgal dyers used branches of smoketree plant in dyeing, prepare local textile called ‘kalagayi’. Books, brochures, journals and CD printed by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Haydar Aliyev Foundation and “Azer-Ilme” LLC were presented at the conference. To note, the organizer of the conference is Arrdhor Critt Horticole. The conference was previously held in Manchester, Lion, Greenwich, Brussels, Edinburg, Amsterdam, Avignon, Riggisberg, Montpellier, Liverpool, Suceava, Vienna, Istanbul, Poznan, Lisbon, Derby and Antwerpen cities. In the end it was announced that DHA 33- Dyes in History and Archaeology will be held in Glasgow City of Scotland, Great Britain on 30-31 October 2014. |
