5-day 1st YOCOCU School for students and young professionals arranged in Medieval Agsu town on 6-12 October, 2014 at initiative of MIRAS Social Organization in Support of Studying of Cultural Heritage, with support of Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, ANAS, Agsu region Executive Power was completed. The school was dedicated to the topics of conservation, restoration and management of archaeological sites.
The course first in the field of restoration and conservation in Azerbaijan helped the participants to achieve knowledge and practice in the relevant domains. They discussed the issues of conservation and management of archaeological sites on the basis of a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach.
Within the course large exchange of views around topics: introduction history and development of Agsu archaeological site, challenges in the region,
mechanisms of decay, principles of restoration, case studies and others was held.
The finds of medieval Agsu finds were discussed, data was collected about them, their conservation and documentation work was fulfilled. Sampling of microclimate parameters and interpretation, practice in laboratories and introduction to the stratigraphic methods were compared with world experience.
The classes were held by Azerbaijan, Italian, Turkish and Peruvian conservation scientists and restorers. The participants were provided with the opportunities to present what they learnt, the created groups made presentations on practical work of scientific research, conservation and restoration.
It was proposed to address officially to corresponding state bodies concerning support of this kind of events on all fields of cultural heritage and implementation in a wider scale.
In the end the participants were granted certificates.
The school lasted for 5 days and having 40 was ended with visits to Sheikh Dursun Monument and Az-Granata MMC.
The school was attended by historian, artist and tourism members of MIRAS, students of Baku State University, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Qafqaz University, Khazar University and Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the representatives of “Yanardag” State Historical and Nature Reserve, Shabran History and Culture Reserve, Chiraggala History and Architecture Reserve, “Ateshgah” Temple, Zagatala State Natural Reserve, ANAS National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, Museum of National Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi and teachers from Agsu schools joined the Agsu school.
